Allison Cooke - Artist Statement

My recent artistic endeavors make reference to the images, myths, and traditions embodied in what remains of the ancient world. Within the legacy of archaic sources, I find an interplay of relinquished yet attainable meaning, past and present, imagined and actual, change and permanency, spiritual sensuality and material earth that mourns loss while simultaneously commemorating a natural and harmonious view of the world. Contained within the recombination of art historical imagery is my quest for a contemplative meditation upon an idyllic vision that freely traverses and transcends time and place as we know it. I envision this visual tapestry of kindred spirits in past artists and my own sensibilities coalescing into a collaborative dance of reminiscent reflection, suggesting open worlds embracing poetic reveries.
