Pastepaper Workshop with Curt Dornberg

February 1, 2009 • 10 am-4 pm
$125, all materials included

Class size: 8 min. – 12 max.

Course Description:

The ancient art of pastepaper is enjoying a contemporary revival as more of us discover the simple and elegant results. Pastepaper has been a choice of fine bookbinders for centuries for endpapers and book and box coverings. Contemporary artists invent new applications such as collage papers, even elegant gift-wraps.

Have fun creating your own pastepapers. Take home a variety pack of a dozen different designs and colors. Feature one of them on the cover of a purse/pocket portfolio.

About the Instructor:

Curt began his career as a display designer in Minneapolis, but after completing his doctorate in English at the University of Iowa, pursued an academic career in the humanities. Curt’s love of the visual and the verbal arts eventually came together in Tucson when he began Deer’s Run Bindery and Press in 2000. Curt creates artists’ books—writing, binding, and creating all decorative elements, with emphasis on handwoven fabrics and original pastepapers. Curt’s passion for pattern has found expression in both, for each craft has a rich history of two-dimensional repeat
pattern formation.

Curt has studied with leading teachers in both the fiber and book arts and now teaches workshops throughout the West. You will find Curt’s artists’ books in such libraries as the University of Arizona, Texas A. & M., University of Southern California, and The University
of Iowa. His work is found in private collections as well. The most recent installation of Curt’s art is at Conrad-Wilde Gallery.
