Lisa Marie Sipe - Artist Statement

The encaustic pieces I create are inspired by my photography of nature. Sometimes this leads me on an abstract expressionist journey in encaustic that leaves only the hint of the original inspiration . . . such as a color scheme. Other times I incorporate the photography itself into the piece and allow my organic images to mingle with the earthy encaustic medium. Either way I am expressing my desire to translate my obsession with tree bark, flowers and rocks into the essence or spirit of each form.
