Molly Geissman - Artist Statement

I am obsessed with the organic circular. This is an image buried deep in my 1950’s past and is the driving psychological energy behind my art making.

What interests me most right now is working on multi-layered imagery giving each piece a history and a place in space. I also search for ways to fragment the work, creating a sense of imperfection. Whether I am painting or printing, I welcome the uncontrolled accident (a surrealist at heart) and use my many years working with fiber to aid me experimenting with untraditional methods and materials to try to achieve unexpected results.
