Miles Conrad, Director and Curator of the Conrad Wilde Gallery, has been a painter and sculptor with experimental encaustics for over 18 years. His work is shown regionally and nationally. He offers Beginning to Advanced level classes as well as Private Instruction in encaustic painting and sculpture in his studio at Conrad Wilde Gallery.

Introduction to Encaustic: Works on Paper

Are you intrigued by the luminous sheen and lushness of the encaustic medium? Have you been intimidated by all the technical information and equipment required for the process? Here is an introductory session that focuses on getting results fast- before investing in costly equipment and supplies. No previous encaustic experience is necessary. All materials included.

Introduction to Encaustic: Collage

Looking for ways to add depth and luminosity to your mixed media collage work? Are you curious about encaustic? This workshop is for artists at all levels who want to learn how to incorporate the encaustic technique within their existing collage practice. No previous encaustic experience is necessary. Bring your source images and your imagination and be prepared to explore! All materials included.

Beginning Encaustic Class

This class covers all topics necessary to begin a studio practice in encaustic. It includes valuable information on studio safety, equipment, materials and resources, substrates and grounds, fusing, brushwork, and other basic additive or subtractive techniques. The class includes feedback and critique sessions that are designed to build skills and confidence.

Advanced Beginning Encaustic Class

This class covers all topics necessary to advance and develop an ongoing studio practice in encaustic. It includes a review of basic studio safety. A troubleshooting session will help students to problem-solve previous issues working with the material. More advanced additive and subtractive techniques will be demonstrated. The feedback and critique sessions are designed to focus existing skills and remove barriers.

Intermediate Encaustic Class

This class is designed for serious encaustic practitioners who have mastered the basic skills and are ready to incorporate additional techniques and rendering methods into their studio practices. The class also includes valuable information on making encaustic medium and paint. Feedback and critique sessions are designed to advance skills, and elicit authenticity.

3D Encaustic Class

This class is designed for experienced encaustic practitioners who have mastered the basic skills and are ready to incorporate additional 3D fabrication techniques into their studio practices. The class covers a variety of materials and techniques. Feedback and critique sessions are designed to build skills and expand options.

DIY (Do it Yourself) Encaustic Casting

Utilize the power of multiples and repetition to make contemporary sculpture using basic casting techniques! This one-day workshop offers the hands-on skills necessary to cast simple forms in encaustic using inexpensive, non-technical materials found at your local hardware or hobby store. No previous casting experience is necessary. Prerequisite: students must have completed Off the Wall: Encaustic in 3 Dimensions

Moving the Work Forward: Critical Feedback with Miles Conrad

This interactive session is designed to remove barriers, identify next-steps, and empower artists to reach their full potential. Learn the secrets of presenting your work to a gallery, developing stronger marketing materials, and writing a more effective artist statement. Participate in a group level critique of your work within the context of a supportive, yet challenging community of peers.
